Bionamics secures BMBF grant over EUR 1.3 Mio to manage research consortium on multiple sclerosis

Kiel/Hamburg, 4th June 2010. Bionamics GmbH, a Kiel and Hamburg based asset management company, announced today that it will receive up to EUR 1.34 Mio from the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) to coordinate the NEU² consortium. The NEU² consortium focuses on innovative therapeutic as well as diagnostic approaches in multiple sclerosis, a severe autoimmune disease affecting more than 2.5 Mio people worldwide. The competence consortium currently comprises Merck Serono, Evotec, the European Screening Port, the University Hospital of Hamburg including its Institute for Neuroimmunology and Clinical MS Research (inims) and others. NEU² results from a federal competiton that Bionamics won with its proposal on novel discovery and development structures in Germany. It comprises the development of a discovery and development project portfolio in neurological diseases financed through private and public funds, the latter comprising up to EUR 20 Mio. Bionamics is responsible for the overall consortium management as well as for the interface management to efficiently develop the project portfolio into novel drugs and drug candidates.

Timm Jessen, Managing Director of Bionamics, commented: “This is a solid support for our innovative approach to develop high calibre projects in a disease specific competence network. Portfolio based asset management attracts increasingly the interest of investors, and the management of NEU² provides us with a unique opportunity to validate this approach and to secure further investments.”
